Farmington’s aggressive defense caused Cheshire to turn over the basketball. Offensively, scoring was distributed throughout the team. Kate Watson led the team with 9 points. Emily, Leila, and Vicki each had 6. Elise had 2 and Maddy had 4. Leila and Vicki each were 2-2 from the line. Cate L. and Ainsley K. led the team in defensive rebounds. Cami snagged 6 steals with tough defense on the press.

Lots of heart and determination on the press caused Colchester to turn the ball over continuously in the first half. Farmington was able to make headway on the turnovers and finish those lay-ups! Kate W led the team with steals and scored 12 points. Emily s. scored 9, dished 4 assists, and controlled the offense to hold the lead. Ainsley K. had 6 points, 3 steals, and was 2-2 on the line. Lucy S. sank two jumpers for 4 points. Leila T added 3 and secured 4 rebounds while Maddy and Cami each scored a bucket. Cate L. added in 5 rebounds. A true team effort!

The 6th-grade team battled through two tough losses this weekend. After racking up 10 fouls in the first half against Wethersfield, Farmington regained composure to only allow 14 points in the second half. Farmington stuck with the aggressive play but couldn’t connect on offense.

The 6th-grade team played a tough game against West Hartford. Down by 16 at the half, Farmington demonstrated their fighting spirit and only let West Hartford score 5 in the third quarter. Baskets were made by Kate W., Emily, Leila and Elise to give the 6th graders 8 points for the game.

The 6th graders ended the weekend with a win against Rocky Hill. Kate W. and Elise A. each scored 6. Lucy and Vicki contributed a basket and Cami K. was 2-2 on the foul line. Ainsley K, Maddy W., and Leila T worked the high/low option against the 2-3 zone. The team continues to work on shooting and fundamental in the upcoming week

Farmington outscored Tolland by 20 to earn the second win of the season. Vicki W. led the team with 8. Leila T. scored 7, while both Maddy W. and Lucy S. contributed 6 points each. Cate L., Emily S., and Ainsley K. all put two on the board to help the 6th-grade team seal the win.
Sunday – vs Avon 31 – 22 W
The 6th-grade team ends the weekend with a winning record of 3 wins, 2 losses! They continue to display improvement on both sides of the court. Farmington came out of the locker room to a tied score at halftime and outplayed Avon 8-0 in the 3rd quarter. They were able to keep the lead while playing smart defense and controlled offense in the fourth quarter. Scoring was a team effort. Vicki finished three lay-ups and made a free throw to earn 7 points. Kate, Ainsley, Leila, and Elise all had 4. Cate, Lucy, Emily, and Cami each had 2. Defensively, our guards gave Avon a tough time in the backcourt. Aggressive play caused Avon to turn the ball over frequently. Fronting the Avon post players, Ainsley Kay was a force to be reckoned with underneath the basket. The team continues to work on passing, screening and finishing, as well as, transition defense before facing West Hartford next weekend.

Defense Shines for 7th-Picard
Defense wins games and our team proved that again today. “When a team gives up only 4 points in the second half more than likely that team wins the game. Today our collective effort on the defensive side of the ball allowed us to climb out of the hole we put ourselves in,” said Coach Picard. After the first quarter, Farmington was down 10-2. Then they turned up the defense, giving up only 10 more points the rest of the game. They also started to hit some shots. With the game still in doubt at the start of the 4th quarter, tied at 18, Farmington got 3 key shots from guards Reshma P. (2) and Lily P. (1) plus another basket by forward Brooke J. Anna L. lead all Farmington scorers with 7 points. The final score was 30-20.
Farrell – 7th Grade
The 7th-grade girls battled hard and played great defense. We had trouble scoring but are looking forward to our next contest on the road against
Manchester.
