Farmington Girls Travel Basketball

2019-20 Season

5TH-8TH-grade girls who reside in Farmington and/or attend Farmington Public Schools are encouraged to try out for the towns six* travel teams. Tryouts are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, October 8th and 10th. Players are expected to attend both tryout nights at West Woods Upper Elementary School at the following times. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to sign in, stretch, and hear any announcements.

5th and 6th graders 6:00 – 7:30 pm
7th and 8th graders 7:30 – 9:00 pm

Registration for tryouts is done through the Recreation Department. Your child must be registered by September 26th to participate in tryouts. Please visit their website to register at
www.farmington-ct.org/community/recreation

Should you have any questions about tryouts or the travel program, in general, please email farmingtongirls@gmail.com.

  • FGTB would like to offer a 2nd option at all grade levels starting this season. If there are enough travel-ready players to justify a second team then one will be offered. The plan is to have a 5th/6th-grade combo team and a 7th/8th-grade combo team competing in the NCC. Since that league allows students from a school system to play regardless of residency any girl who attends FPS can now, for the first-time, tryout for the town’s travel teams. So, help spread the word to all of the students in these grade levels!

FGTB is hosting an appreciation night on May 10 from 7-9pm at the
Mandell JCC Valley Sports & Community Center
310 Albany Turnpike
Canton, CT 06019

Final details are being worked out but this FREE night out for your player(s) is our way of saying thank you.
We also have a credit and the facility is closing down June 30 so we are in a use it or lose it situation. Emoji
This night out is for FGTB players only. Several coaches (and maybe some current FHS players) will be on hand to run the clinic and monitor the scrimmages.

Below is a schedule of activities.

7-7:15 drop off/check in
7:15 we will take the floor for the clinic portion of the night
8:15-9pm scrimmages will be offered to those staying after the clinic. Players will be broken up for scrimmages based on age.

Players are encouraged to come to the clinic to review skills they should be working on all summer and fall leading up to next season.
Please RSVP (attending only) to Patty Picard at ppicards@yahoo.com. I want to know how many players to expect prior to the evening.

Finally, this event is free but donations will be accepted to support the FHS Girls Basketball team’s trip to Africa in the summer of 2020. The team will be working with Outreach Africa USA – the organization run by Coach Ramsay and his family, which was started by his father.

Sunday vs West Hartford 13 – 19 L

6TH GRADE

Friday @ Berlin 23 -22 W
Farmington won another close game against Berlin. Up by two at the half, Farmington continued to fight for control of the game. Tough, aggressive rebounding by Lucy S and Ainsley K helped keep Berlin from taking the lead. Kate W, Emily s, and Maddy W added 6, 5 and 4 points to the board. Cate L, Elise A and Cami K each contributed with a good-looking drive to the hoop. According to the CGBL, Farmington continues to hold on to fourth in the Nutmeg division. Go Girls!’

Sunday vs West Hartford 22 – 31 L
Farmington gave the 2nd place West Hartford a tough match for the last game of the regular season. Down by 10 at the half, Farmington came out fighting to decrease the lead by 5. Overall score was 22-31 but Farmington did win the second half 13-12. A great game to have before entering the playoffs next weekend. Kate W had a three-pointer to end with 6, Emily S was 6- 8 from the line, and Leila contributed 3. Vicki, Elise, Ainsley, and Cate L each grabbed a bucket. Lucy, Leila, And Ainsley improved the team’s rebounding and provided tough defense down low. Cami, Elise, Emily, Vicki, and Kate provided much trouble for WH on the press.

7TH GRADE – Picard

Friday @ Berlin 59 – 13 W
Saturday vs West Hartford 31 – 15 W
Over the final weekend of the regular season the 7th grade Picard team was in control of their own destiny – win both games and finish in first place in the Nutmeg division, 2nd overall in the CT Girl’s Basketball League. And the team did not disappoint! On Friday they beat Berlin in a makeup game and on Sunday they won a highly contested game against West Hartford, 31-15. While securing the first goal of their season as repeating champs in the Nutmeg, the team is poised to make another run in the postseason. It will be a tough road for sure but one this team is capable of making according to their coach. “We have to go through West Hartford again and that will not be easy,” said Coach Picard. “However, we always play tough defense so if we continue to put points on the board we will be a tough out.” The team is certainly hopeful that they can repeat as tournament champions as well and it all begins Sunday, March 3 at 1:15 on their home court. The team sure hopes to get lots of fans to come support them at WWUE.

8TH GRADE

Sunday vs West hartford 38 – 33 W
