The 7th grade Picard team enters the last two weeks of the regular season tied for 1st place in the Nutmeg Division of the CT Girls Basketball Leauge. At 16-3 they finished this past week with three huge wins. On Thursday, Feb. 7 they hosted Glastonbury and won a hard fought game 33-31. Anna L. led her team to victory by playing tenacious defense, by helping break pressure and by tallying 15 points. The intensity of that game was followed by another on Saturday as Farmington faced a difficult Southington team. The offense was firing on all cylinders and the team won 41-27. Twins Sarah and Abby B. combined for 20 of the team’s points and blocked or altered so many shots it was difficult for Southington to score. On Sunday, even without the twin towers and the team having an off shooting performance, Farmington handled a persistent Tolland team capping the week with the third victory, 33-19. With three more games until the playoffs, Farmington’s Coach Picard couldn’t be happier. “Every coach wants their team playing their best basketball of the season at this point. We want to close out the regular season strong and continue to execute on both ends of the floor as we head into the playoffs.”

With only 7 players, Farmington continued to demonstrate their heart and determination against a fully stacked Newington. After being outscored 0-16 in the first quarter, Farmington continued to battle until the final seconds of the game; only coming up short by two points to earn the 4th quarter score of 8 to 10. A highlight of the game when Kate W. sank two 3 pointers to end the game with 9 points. Cate L. scored 3, Emily S. and Maddy W. each had 2.

Sunday vs Simsbury 28 – 15 W
Farmington rebounded Sunday to beat Simsbury 28-15. Kate W. Led scoring with 8. Lucy, Emily, and Leila each had 4. Cate L. shot 2-2 on the line. Ainsley, Maddy, and Elise each contributed a basket.
Tuesday, the 6th graders will headline the halftime show at the FHS girl’s game.
Practice continues on Thursday with defense fundamentals and offensive movement off the ball.

Farmington Girls 7th Grade Farrell Team secured their first victory of the season over Simsbury on Saturday, January 26th. A tight battle throughout, Farmington was led on the offensive end by Gibson with 9 points and a solid rebounding performance and 2 points by Avery. A great defensive effort sealed the victory and was led by Fionnuala. Contributions from all ten players including baskets by Elli, Sophia & Sara made this a fantastic team win.
